I learned to sail a Mirror Dinghy on the Norfolk coast as a teenager. My parents thought it would be a good life skill. So far, so good. However, Major Athill, my teacher, forgot to include ‘how to survive when the dinghy capsizes in the North Sea.’ I’m still traumatised. But don’t let that put you off this very charming design. There’s plenty of movement as the water colour boats zip back and forth. I like the washed-out effect that hints of more boats in the distance.
