This season I have fallen in love with the quieter colours, the overlooked heroes of radiance: brown, beige, fawn, grey, earthy pink and ivory. 'Lambent' is the word I think - softly glowing. Birds, fish and flowers with their bright notes are here too of course, but, as it were, in dawn's early light, part silhouetted, gently lit and contrasted, just emerging. I explore the exquisite dissonance of brown with blue, put lovebirds on Gingham and give foliage the melodies and themes while flowers take up the accompaniment - a season for reversal, juxtaposition, surprise! Beautiful, painterly Liberty prints are with us as always and, capriciously, a strikingly bold design featuring Hungarian Modernist playing cards!
